Simple test for working of a brushless motor

Here is a good trick to know if a brushless motor is working or not.
First rotate the shaft and you notice that it rotates freely.
Now take any two wires of the motor and join them.
Again try rotating the shaft. This time you can observe, a slight
resistance is provided to the motion.
Repeat this with different combination of wires.
You get three combinations and if this happens in all the three cases,
then the motor has no defects.
